Oh lanta, this week has been one for the books. Not in a good way. I posted on Tuesday that things seemed to be going better. I was back at work, Cameron was recovering from the weekend, ect. Until Wednesday at about 4 am when he woke up coughing. Well coughing lead to bleeding, and for the first time, bleeding lead to passing out. Not only passing out but passing out combined with a little thing called the Vagal Response. The Vagal response is when someones blood pressure and heart rate get to low that they faint and have an episode that mimics a seizure. It was absolutely, terrifying.
Around 5 am Wednesday morning the ambulance got here and off again we went to the hospital. We were placed in the ICU around 9 am and were released that night at about 10:30. We were too scared to go home that night so we ended up driving out to Midvale and staying at my father in laws house.
Thursday we woke up after a hard night and headed over to his ENT to get checked out. When we explained that we had been in the hospital 4 times in the last week and 3 of those times were for severe bleeding he just stared at us. Apparently, there is only a 5% chance someone will bleed in the first place and there is a less than 1% chance that someone will bleed more than once.
He told us it would be best to spend the night in SLC one more night just in case (since the bleeding usually starts 36-48 hours apart) so we packed our bags and spent the night again last night. This morning things to be about 50% better than mornings past. He got up and shaved his face this morning and actually ate some solid food (McDonald's french fries to be exact.)
I missed just about this entire week of work... However, in the long run.. being there for Cameron was where I needed to be. I am beyond grateful for the first responders that got out here to the middle of nowhere where we live and helped keep him stable. I am extremely grateful for Officer Thomas who was dispatched to our house not only Sunday but Wednesday as well. He sat with Cameron both times and kept him alert, he also kept me sane by keeping me talking and at some points even laughing.
I am so lucky to have such a strong husband who even in the midst of his own health problems did nothing but worry about me and assure me that he would be okay and he wasn't leaving me alone any time soon.
Hopefully now, we can start to heal and get ready for my favorite time of year. Even if it is a tiny bit of a late start. Tomorrow we have the Yellow Ribbon Ceremony on camp, and an ugly sweater party with our family and friends depending on how Cameron is doing will determine if we can make it. I have one last week of work, then I'm off to California on the 17th for some MUCH NEEDED time with my family.
